Key Verse: Hebrews 1:9

“You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.”
The anointing is a sacred and powerful blessing from God. It is given to those who walk in righteousness and seek to honor His presence. As believers, we must understand the value of the anointing and ensure we honor those whom God has anointed.

Loving Righteousness Brings an Increase in Anointing

Jesus Christ demonstrated a love for righteousness and a hatred for wickedness. If we desire an increase in anointing, we must follow His example and commit ourselves to righteousness.

  • The anointing is given to those who live a holy and obedient life.
  • It is not given lightly but requires dedication and faithfulness to God.

The Cost of the Anointing

The anointing oil in the Old Testament was prepared in a costly and sacred manner. This signifies that the anointing should be highly valued and honored.

  • When God anoints someone, we must respect that anointing rather than despising it.
  • Disrespecting the anointing can have spiritual consequences.

The Era of the Holy Spirit

We live in the era of the Holy Spirit, and His presence remains upon us. As anointed individuals, we are called to reflect God’s power, love, and grace in our lives.

  • The anointing is not for personal gain but for God’s glory.
  • It empowers us to serve and uplift others in faith.

The Era of the Holy Spirit

Respecting the Anointed Ones

Biblical Examples of Respecting the Anointing

  • David and Saul (1 Samuel 24:5): Despite Saul’s wrongdoings, David refused to harm him because he recognized Saul’s anointing by God.
  • Michal and David: Michal despised David for dancing before the Lord and was barren for life (2 Samuel 6:23). Dishonoring the anointing can lead to serious consequences.

We must be careful in how we treat and speak about God’s anointed individuals.

God Lifts Those Who Honor Him

When we act in righteousness, God lifts us and increases the anointing in our lives. However, dishonoring the anointing brings spiritual consequences.

  • The anointing is both a blessing and a responsibility.
  • We must live according to God’s righteousness to maintain His favor.

God Commands His Servants to Anoint

In 1 Kings 19:15, God instructed Elijah to anoint three individuals for their divine assignments.

  • This demonstrates that God specifically chooses and anoints people for His purpose.
  • If we fail to honor those whom God has anointed, it may have personal and familial consequences.

God Hears Everything We Say

Biblical Warnings About Our Words

  • 2 Kings 9:1-13 & Hebrews 4:14: God listens to every word spoken about Him and others.
  • Malachi 3:16: Every word spoken is recorded in heaven.

We must be mindful of how we speak about anointed individuals, ensuring that we do not fall into dishonor.

Jesus, Our Humble High Priest

According to Hebrews 8:2, 7-12, Jesus, our High Priest, humbly ministers on our behalf.

  • A time will come when all will acknowledge the Lord’s name.
  • Until then, we must walk in humility and honor His anointing upon our lives and others.

The Hope We Have in Christ

Hebrews 6:19-20 reminds us that we have a firm and secure hope in Christ.

  • The anointing guides us toward a deeper relationship with God.
  • It empowers us to fulfill His calling in our lives.

Honoring the anointing and the anointed is a biblical principle that brings divine blessings and favor.

  • By loving righteousness and respecting those whom God has anointed, we open ourselves to greater anointing.
  • Walking in obedience positions us to receive more of God’s power and favor.

Let us commit to honoring God, His anointing, and those He has anointed, ensuring that we walk in His blessings and divine purpose.

God bless you abundantly.
